An Important Message to Our Contractors
May 30, 2018
To All Contractor Associations
The United Brotherhood is committed to keeping you updated on decisions and activities that may impact your contractor association members. Therefore, I want to inform you that effective May 30, 2018, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (“Northeast Council”), and the majority of locals under its jurisdiction have been merged into the Keystone + Mountain + Lakes Regional Council (“Keystone Council”), the New England Regional Council of Carpenters (“New England Council”), and the Eastern Millwright Regional Council of Carpenters (“Eastern Millwright Council”). In some cases, Keystone Council locals and Northeast Council locals have been disbanded and merged into existing locals.
The UBC’s mission is to work hand-in-hand with our employers to achieve 70% market share. After a comprehensive analysis of shared markets in the Eastern District, it was concluded that the contractors of the region would be best served by consolidating existing markets currently shared by multiple regional councils. This action will create a stronger alignment with existing construction markets and significantly improve contractor mobility and member portability. The adjustments we’ve made today will put us in a stronger position tomorrow.
If your contractors perform work primarily in New York State, the New England Regional Council of Carpenters led by Executive Secretary-Treasurer Tom Flynn will now service that area. The Council’s telephone number is (800) 275-6200. Their website is http://www.nercc.org. EST Flynn will reach out to you very quickly with information regarding procedures and contact information.
If your contractors perform work primarily in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland or Delaware, the Keystone + Mountain + Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters led by Executive Secretary-Treasurer Bill Waterkotte will now service those areas. The Council’s telephone number is (412) 922-6200. The website is http://www.kmlcarpenters.org . EST Waterkotte will reach out to you very quickly with information regarding procedures and contact information.
Both EST Flynn and EST Waterkotte are working hard to limit the disruption that comes with change, so every precaution is being taken to make this consolidation go as smoothly as possible for everyone. They are ready to address any questions or inquiries you may have regarding this matter. I am also available to answer any questions you may have.
